Wasted in the USA: Medfield Insane Asylum

Created in 1892, the Medfield Insane Asylum opened its doors in May 1896 and closed April 3, 2003. The name was changed to Medfield State Hospital in 1914. The historic mental hospital is located at 45 Hospital Road in Medfield, Massachusetts, USA. (GPS coordinates: 42°12'48?N 71°20'10?W.)

During its history, thousands of people were treated and worked there. A self-contained community on 685 acres, the hospital generated it's own heat, light and power for as many as 58 buildings, and raised livestock and grew produce for as many as 2,220 patients and 900 employees at its peak.

The hospital claimed to be the first mental health facility to be built on the "cottage plan" with individual buildings to allow for better light ventilation, easier classification, and to create a more homelike environment. To this end, sitting and work rooms were on the first floor and sleeping quarters on the upper floors.

During the Kennedy Administration, in the early 1960s, Congress passed a law requiring that all mental health patients in the United States be housed or hospitalized in the least restrictive environment possible. In the early seventies, as a result of this law, patients, guardians, and parents of patients filed a class action suit against the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Department of Mental Health (DMH) to require the DMH to conform with the federal law. In 1974, a federal court consent decree was entered into by the DMH resulting in the relocation of most mental patients from isolated mental institutions to community based halfway houses and hospitals.

The complex was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. Although the buildings are shuttered, the grounds are open to the public from 6 am to dusk. It has been used as a filming location for major motion pictures, including Shutter Island and The Box. Currently committees are in the process of developing a re-use plan. Abutters have stalled their work.

Rajamangala National Stadium
( Ratchamangkhalakilasathan ), also known as Hua Mark Indoor Stadium, is the national stadium of Thailand and the home stadium for the Thailand national football team. Located in Khwaeng Hua Mak, Khet Bang kapi, Bangkok, it officially opened in 1998.
It was first used for the 1998 Asian Games in 1998. Since then, it has been used for many international matches and football tournaments. Most notably, for the 2007 AFC Asian Cup. Thai club sides have also used the stadium when playing in continental cup competitions. Krung Thai Bank FC ( now Bangkok Glass FC ) used it for AFC Champions League matches, and PEA FC and Chonburi FC have recently used it in the AFC Cup. Aside from football, it has been used for athletics, pop concerts and political rallies.
Rajamangala Stadium was designed by the Faculty of Architecture at Chulalongkorn University. The main material used in construction was concrete and therefore, though the stadium is impressive and imposing, it could never be described as beautiful. However, it is undoubtedly dramatic. The stands rise and fall like a giant, exaggerated version of Huddersfield's Galpharm Stadium. At each end are quite narrow tiers of seats but the tiers rise and rise as they move round the sides until they peak level with the half-way line. From an aesthetic point-of-view, the stadium is best viewed from a distance, preferably from the air, where the elliptical shape of the side tribunes seem particularly pronounced.
The aforementioned side tribunes are designated East and West. East is the uncovered popular side; West is the covered side where the more expensive seats are. The two ends are designated North and South. North is the more popular of the two. It's where the more vocal and colourful elements of the Thai support congregate.
The capacity of the stadium is 49,749. When the stadium first opened the capacity was 65,000. But plastic seats were installed on the North, South and East sides, where previously there had been bare concrete steps, in readiness for the 2007 AFC Asian Cup.
The stadium is not served by public transport which has always been a source of frustration for fans. No Bangkok Sky trains, subway-trains or normal over ground trains stop near the stadium ( unlike at the Suphachalasai Stadium, which is served by the Sky train - National Stadium Station ). However, there are buses and taxis which pass close to the stadium. But in 2010 Suvarnabhumi Airport Link will be completed which means that the stadium will served by the City Line at - Ramkhamhaeng Station.

Woman in Wheel Chair accident with vehicle Main Street

Codiac R.C.M.P. Moncton Fire & N.B. Ambulance were on scene of this accident on Main Street this afternoon just before 3 P.M. A woman in a wheel chair was struck by a car and paramedics were checking her for injuries. 1 lane was blocked on Main Street at Highfield by Police & Fire and Officers were talking to witnesses. Road conditions were dry at the time of the accident.

The Nikon D80, destined to replace the popular D70 series, is a great camera for Nikon fans who wish to upgrade from their D50s, 70s or 100s. It's also attractive enough to maybe get a few people to jump ship!

Here's the highlights:

1) 10.2 megapixel. A substantial upgrade from the 6mp of the older cameras, performance should be very comparable to the highly regarded D200 camera;

2) 11-point AF system. Similar again to the D200 in performance (though not as easy to change);

3) Large viewfinder (.94x magnification). Again, taken from the D200, this is a clear improvement over the previous cameras. Spec wise, this is also better than all the competition, even though other, personal preference factors need to be taken into consideration (such as layout of LCDs and focusing points).;

4) 2.5" LCD. Not only is it larger, it can also be viewed at a much wider angle--particularly handy when locked to a tripod.

The camera is small for Nikon (about like the D50), but has a good, firm grip for those with medium to larger hands. Controls are well thought out--easy to get to and use. Dampening of mirror noise is better than its competition.

Nikon's use of the SDHC format should be commended. These small cards will have no real disadvantage to the older CF hards once the HC versions start hitting the shelves, and should relieve the danger of "bent pins".

Things you've liked about previous Nikons have been retained. The D80 uses inexpensive wireless & wired remotes, and it still allows the built-in flash to control other Nikon Speedlights remotely.

Compared to the competition, the Canon Rebel XTi & Sony Alpha 100, the Nikon starts a bit in the hole, considering it's the most expensive camera (by $200 & $100, respectively). The XTi offers a nice "anti-dust" hardware & software solution; while the Sony offers in camera stablization. Both use the rear LCD for info status. While many may prefer the traditional LCD on top (like the D80), the rear LCD does have the advantage of being considerably larger text for older eyes (and on the Alpha, rotates when you rotate the camera for verticals). Too bad the D80 doesn't give you this option as well.

The XTi is smaller and lighter, maybe too small for many people. The XTi also does not offer wireless capability with the built-in flash (like D80/A100). It's battery (hence capacity) is a bit smaller.

The Alpha 100 being Sony's first modern digital SLR means that getting lenses and accessories my be a bit more difficult (even though it uses a lot from the older Maxxum cameras). It's also a bit noiser in its operations.

The D80 adds more AF selections than either of the above cameras, has nice enhancements like grid lines and double exposures. It also comes with a protective cover for the rear LCD.

Lens wise, they greatly outnumber those offered by Sony, particularly in any considered "Pro" grade. While Canon can compete in "Pro" grade with Nikon (particularly in longer length lenses), Nikon has a bit of advantage in wider angles for digital. Nikon only offers one size digital sensor, where as Canon must offer two series (for 3 different chip sizes).

Is the D80 worth the money? For anyone with Nikon lenses, undoubtedly. My recommendation for anyone with Canon EF or Minolta Maxxum lenses: look at those cameras first...but be sure to look at the D80 before you buy.

Lens review: Tremendous! The Nikkor 18-135 gives everybody what they want, an affordable lens with above average quality.

First, the 18-135 range is excellent for a kit lens, equivalent of a 27-200 in 35mm photography. It looks great, zooms smoothly, and balances well. The Silent Wave focusing motor is quiet, quick and smooth, and allows immediate manual focus (no hunting for switches). The internal focus is great for anyone using polarizing filters, and allows for a more efficient tulip shaped lens hood (supplied).

Second, the image quality is very good. The aperture is of average size, so don't expect images to jump out like large aperture lenses, but quality is good throughout the range.

Third, Nikon always includes a better than average 5 year warranty in the US on their lenses.

The only negative is that I always prefer a metal lens mount to a plastic one, although the latter keeps both the weight and cost down.

Mario Kart Wii -- 1 November 2011, Worldwide Wi-Fi #01

The first of the month was more than just bidding farewell to Halloween for me, it also seemed to indicate a good excuse to go on a binge of races.

Joining me for most of these races were K.O.K. and T.Jefferson, perhaps known better here on YouTube as Falco18 and Overhazard respectively.

In particular, a lot of these selections will overlap with the uploads named Mario Kart Wii - Nov 1 11 A, B, and C on Overhazard's channel. If you hadn't already seen them, you should go check them out.

Since it's not every race, and they don't follow the same order, I'll make a note of each individual one that can be viewed from a different perspective.

Koopa Troopa
Cheep Charger

I really love the feel of the Cheep Charger, because it's quick to accelerate and it can unleash a mini turbo that feels almost as strong as a Mushroom boost, which is a nice bit of feedback for someone who is completely addicted to drifting.

I often worry that its low cruising speed will let it down and give the many high-speed inward drifting bikes plenty of opportunity to pull away and pick up a lead, but that actually doesn't happen as often as I would have thought.

Race #1 -- GCN DK Mountain

I actually set up my recording session as I was already sorted into this room, so you won't get to see it here...but there's a bit of a strange matchmaking glitch afoot that I was previously unaware of. Essentially, I tried to join the room that I knew K.O.K. and T.Jefferson were already playing in, but it sent me to this one instead, a room with nobody I know inside it.

Weirder still, if you'll notice at the end of the race, it doesn't give me the offer to "Join a Friend"...so the game actually thinks I've found the right room somehow. Weird!

As for the race itself, having an acceleration-oriented vehicle with good handling makes taking the shortcut that much easier, though I must confess some modicum of surprise that it was enough to keep faster craft from catching up.

Race #2 -- Luigi Circuit

Unfortunately for the Cheep, Luigi Circuit really doesn't have many turns, so the normal top speed tends to leave something to be desired in terms of performance.

Finding myself starved for items at crucial moments really hurt my last-ditch hopes of trying to catch up by cutting through the infield.

Oh well, I came to realize that there wasn't any other explanation after conferring with my intended fellow players, so I ditched this room to try matchmaking myself back into the right company.

Rosalina
Flame Flyer

With a change of room, I decided to change character and vehicle, and for some reason I don't use Rosalina very often...although I will also recognize that there are probably other characters even MORE neglected than her, I decided while perusing the character select screen that she should get a turn.

The Flame Flyer is an old favorite of mine, although it differs somewhat from the Charger in that its acceleration is sacrificed for top speed. It is still very much a drifter's choice, though. I should maybe think about checking myself in for Drifters Anonymous.

Some rooms are a little more aggressive than others, so I got a little hot under the collar after taking just a few too many socks to the rear end and it probably shows.

You can see late in the race where this paranoia managed to take its toll on me and I accidentally tapped the item button a little too much and tossed along a Bob-omb
just a little too carelessly...but at least I didn't hit myself and happened to somehow catch somebody else in the blast instead.

Race #4 -- DK Summit

I don't believe I've ever seen so many stars in a row, although I'll admit that the reason I even had the opportunity to draw some of them was because I happened to squander a couple just so I could draw another item...which I realize is rather silly, given how I already had a good item beforehand.

The part that really counts is that I drew the last one as I was drawing nearer the front, thus sparing me the need to endure the shrinking factor of the Lightning that struck near the end.

I actually thought that the second lap was actually the final one, so you can see my indecision as to whether I should try to muscle andres out of the way or try to pull a last-second slipstream off of him. Fortunately that whole quandary was rendered moot by the helpful reminder from Lakitu that we still had one lap to go.

What really drove the nail in my coffin was my landing after the final trick off the pipe tunnel...without actually triggering the vital drift necessary to cut around the freestanding piranha plant. Oops!

It strays from the pack in providing original and interesting levels, while still retaining enough difficulty to not be a walk in the park. It also has very amusing traps that will probably make you laugh if you fall for one. At least I did. As you may know, this hack's levels are LONG. Even when I drastically cut down the levels' lengths, I still was only able to fit 4 levels. Part 2 up whenever I finish it. Either that or Pit of Death is next up for TAS'ing. "I have had this camera now for 3 weeks and its really wonderful overall. Pros - Very compact and light - not quite the size of a compact camera but pretty close. With the 16mm lens you can easily slip it into a jacket pocket or carry it in a small case. But it feels very substantial and has great ergonomics. Carrying around a DSLR is such a pain when I am hiking or walking around a city but this is a piece of cake. It also hangs from your neck with the lens pointed down so you don't bump into things with it. - Articulating screen lets you shoot from the hip (literally). Screen is also super high resolution and what you see on the screen is pretty much what you get with the picture which is amazing for a non SLR camera. - Fantastic pictures - great colors, excellent quality, 14m pixels really produces clear pictures. Great depth of field. The same sensor as found in a much larger DSLR. Rarely need to use the flash because the sensor is so good. - RAW support as well as JPEG - 1080 videos are beautiful and sounds quality is very good - All of the controls are just a few clicks away on the interface to change the ISO, aperture, etc. - Some really neat features such as HDR (takes 3 pictures with varying settings automatically to develop pictures with more contrast and shadows), automatically takes a picture when someone smiles (really!), panoramic pictures with ease (although takes some practice) Cons - Battery life is lousy. I may have a bad battery and I called Sony and they are sending me a new one for free. - RAW files currently cant be viewed by iPhoto, Photoshop, etc. but you can view them using Sony's software. This should change in the near future. - Limited lens selection right now - again this should change - Most of the software that comes with the camera is PC-only (including firmware updates!) and not available for the Mac (but the key programs that do come with it are mac compatible) All in all, I am very glad I made this purchase. I wanted a new DSLR but was tired of carrying around such a heavy piece of equipment. This is probably a great second camera for professional photographers but for everyone else its just a really great camera. Its ideal for people that want better quality than they can get from a compact but don't want all of the downsides of a DSLR."

Be careful of the Hydroplaning -Accident Wheeler

Moncton Fire responded with 2 vehicles and 2 Ambulances and Codiac R.C.M.P. to a accident just after 1 P.M. today on Wheeler Blvd in the West bound lane. At first thought to have 2 injuries, nobody was injured when first responders arrived on scene. The woman driver hydroplaned and lost control.
Single vehicle accident 5kms north of Rogersville hit hydro pole snapping it in half no injuries around 1:25 P.M.

In the clip below taken from Infowars Nightly News, Alex Jones reveals the hypocrisy of the transnational corporation Google and its popular video asset YouTube.

YouTube has not only blocked the ability to embed the video from the Alex Jones channel, but has used a host of tricks to prevent it from being viewed, including forcing users to register with YouTube to view adult content and include an email address. This works as a delisting to block views and in essence cosigns the video to the dead zone of porn and other questionable content.

The following is a temporary fix to YouTube's undermining. We are working on hosting a version on our servers and it will be included here soon.

The second half of the Friday night Infowars Nightly News broadcast, however, was not locked down by YouTube because it does not include video footage of a Libyan child with the lower half of his face blown away, a powerful yet disgusting piece of truth information that will further turn the tide of popular opinion against the global elite's endless wars and slaughter of innocents in much the same way the media in the late 1960s and early 1970s diminished public support for the Vietnam War.

In 2008, YouTube made national headlines when it responded to calls by the government to pull videos that involved "inciting others to violence." The demand was spearheaded by a notorious warmonger, Sen. Joseph Liberman, who said YouTube was being used by al-Qaeda and affiliated groups as a platform to disseminate propaganda.

In 2010, the site announced it had removed hundreds of videos of American cleric and Pentagon dinner guest Anwar al-Awlaki (who was later allegedly killed in a Predator drone strike in Yemen).

YouTube, however, does not publicize its ongoing and systematic effort to censor political videos and videos that portray war crimes committed by the U.S. in Iraq, Afghanistan, and most recently Libya on the facetious claim that they violate YouTube's terms of service agreement.

Violence that serves the political objectives of the globalists -- for instance, the CIA's "Arab Spring" color revolution currently underway in the Middle East -- will be reviewed by a "community" group organized by the corporate media spin-off Beet TV.

Media not fronted by transnational corporations and deemed politically unacceptable by the government will continue to be pulled off the popular website. Alex Jones has experienced this on several occasions, most notably after a video of the sadistic murder of a puppy by U.S. soldiers in Iraq was pulled from the site.

YouTube also removed a helicopter gunship video posted on Alex Jones' channel showing the murder of journalists and civilians by the U.S. military in Iraq. The video was released by Wikileaks. YouTube later restored the video after it was roundly criticized and accused of censorship.

YouTube's censorship campaign in collaboration with the government is an extension of a Pentagon propaganda effort instituted when Bush Senior invaded Iraq in 1991. As Alex notes in the above video, prior to 1991 the media routinely aired footage of atrocities and war crimes committed in Vietnam, most prominently the napalming of a Vietnamese girl, Phan Thi Kim Phuc, in 1972. The footage was shown on national television along with images of wounded and dead U.S. soldiers and the self-immolation of Buddhist monks.

"I just upgraded to another BMW and of course bought me another Whistler Pro3450. Having it installed in the same place as the others, the receiver right below the license plate. The indicator will be to the left of the steering column right over the parking brake release. Can't see it from either door, so just a push of a button and it stays silent in case you need it to be. Other detectors claim 3 - 5 mile detection. Who cares, I want to have good detection within a 1/2 mile on the freeway and a 1/4 mile for city driving, that's when it's most important. The Whistler is a solid unit that lasts for a long time. I have mine set in City 2 mode and that works best for false alarms. I'm not a speedy driver, but some times you are over the limit and it's nice to have a detector that will let you know of a spreed trap. This is my 3rd unit and I'm picky what I buy. I do my research and get the best for the money. No suction cups or laying on the dash, this unit is remote which means the receiver is located outside the car and is connected to the indicator inside the car. Clean to the sight, soft chirp or louder if needed, and the light can also be dimmed for night driving. That's my .02"

"Installed this detector a day before a trip through Washington into Portland Oregon. On both the way up and back this detector proved to be very sensitive on highway mode. in fact i though it was just going mad the first time it went off! I was Roughly a mile away and couldn't see any other cars ........ the cop was hiding on the over pass, went on it to get gas and had a bit of a startle. But none the less this works wonders for the radar detector. The one bad ....... every thing has to have it. The laser detector doesn't work on mine, now im sure there are a lot that do, but mine isn't connected any more. The laser detector goes off randomly, it really odd. I went to a local farm that is know for no one to be on it and sure it enough i parked my car on the side of the road and with in 10 min it said i was getting laser-ed, so unless farmer john got a laser pointer i think it may be broken. PS this was at night time, idk why though maybe it some uv ray's or something. All in All, im in love with it and have recommended it to a lot of people, and will continue too!"

Readable; Episode 1

A/N: I am officially starting fresh! It was actually really hard to delete my stories, especially "My one reason for living" since it was my first story on YouTube. But I did it, and it is all in the past. Now you have this new series, and I hope you all enjoy it!

::Logan's POV::
Dark. Cold. Harsh. Unbearable. Those were all words to describe the conditions my 5 year old sister, Lucy, and I were living in. In the state of Illinois, near downtown Chicago, there was a secluded, marshy area; an area abandoned and forgotten, just like me and my sister. The two of us lived in a shack deep in the vacant land; a dirty, old, beat-up shack. It was small, maybe about the width and length of four porta potties put together. It was also uncomfortable, unsanitary, excruciatingly cramped, and any other word that related to the meaning of terrible. But, it was something... at least it wasn't nothing.

Honestly, Lucy and I were fortunate to have this home. Even though it is probably the shittiest home that anyone could ever possibly own, the good thing was that we were together. With our parents being murdered, and the two of us almost being separated to different foster homes, Lucy and I had no choice but to run away to this hell hole. We could not be split apart, it would be too hard for her. I could not let my sister go on living her life thinking that I left her, because that's exactly what the foster caretakers would have told her if we didn't run away. I couldn't let her think that her 17 year old brother, the one she looked up to, walked out of her life when she needed him most. So in conclusion, we ended up here, in no mans land.

I wish I could do better for Lucy, she really does deserve the best, especially for how strong she has been. Ever since we have came here, which was exactly 1 week ago, not one complaint left her youth lips. She was always an optimist, saying that putting up with the rough times will give us good fortune in return. When she said that, I would chuckle. Her poor, little, naïve mind. She had not the slightest clue about reality, she had no idea that life wasn't how she viewed it. This only made me happier that I was still with her, guiding her through everything that came in her way, so her perspective of life didn't backfire and burn her gentle heart.

Closing my eyes, I took a strong inhale of the nicotine filled cylinder in my mouth, holding the flavor in the back of my throat, then exhaling deeply while leaning my head back on the wood wall of the shack. Cigarette smoke flew everywhere, vaporizing with the cool air that swooped inside the small space from the open door. In the frame of the opened doorway appeared my lighthearted sister, holding a bucket full of something that reeked.
"Lucy," I said questioningly, putting out my cigarette and stuffing it in my pocket. "What is that?"
"Dinner... maybe." She said, scrunching up her face in disgust as she looking into the metal pale.
I sighed irritably, but smirked at her kind intention. "Lucy, I told you this already, I'll handle dinner."
"But, Hortence," She pouted, using my birth name. "I want to help!"
I stood up and walked over to her, crouching when I was next to her, a kind, brotherly smile plastered on my face.
"I know you do, but look at that." I pointed to the black, lumpy ,sold-slash-liquid stuff in the bucket. "Do you really think that's eatable?"
Her lower lip protruded a bit. "No."
I chuckled, hugging her into my chest. "It's fine, you can help me go find something to eat now, if you'd like?"
Her face lit up with excitement as she pulled out of the embrace, nodding vigorously.
I smiled. "Alrighty, grab your sweater of the ground and lets go!"
I watched as she rushed to the corner of the room and pulled on her thin, fleece sweater, running back over to me with her face glowing. I held out my hand and soon felt her own squeeze it lightly; a squeeze full of trust and reliance. We then walked to the opening of the shack, stepping into the mushy, moist ground, beginning our walk towards the city.

I have the most warped sense of humor in the entire world, and I don't care!
Definately gutter humor....but if I don't start laughing, I will start crying, and that will never end...Actually, I checked the counts on some of the highest viewed videos and found that the big ones all had either farts, porn or trannies in them. I'm tired of making vids with a message, spending hours upon hours of time, only to get a handful of views....so...I'm luring the innocents to my site with these piece of crap vids, and maybe by accident a few of them will watch something of value that Ive posted by accident. Hide any drive in windows

Most of you must have wondered if there exists a way without using software to Hide A Drive completely so that it cannot be viewed or accessed without unlocking it. Well for those who have and who haven't yet, here is a easiest method on How To Hide Any Drive In Just 3 Steps.

Here we go, follow these 3 simple steps:

In my example I will hide Drive Volume B: from My Computer:

After following these 3 steps:

01. Go To Start -- Run or use Win+R keys and type this and press Ok

cmd

For Vista/Windows 7

02. This will open Command Prompt for you. Now type below text and press Enter:

diskpart

Note: In Window Vista and higher you will get a security warning, bypass it clicking on allowing.
Once in Diskpart type below text and press Enter:

list volume

This will list all the partitions. Now as in my example I want to Hide Partition B: and it has Volume no. 5. So my next command will be:

select volume 5
Remember to change 5 with the volume number of your partition you want to hide and press Enter:

03. Now as in my example I am hiding drive B: so my last command will be below and then press Enter:

remove letter B

All done. Now open your computer and see that drive is made hidden:

Now to make a drive Unhidden
Follow first 2 steps as such but in step 3 instead of remove letter B use below command:

assign letter B

For Vista/Windows 7
The commands becomes slightly different here:

assign letter=B

You have successfully unlocked the Hidden Drive.

The militarization of the Eastern Mediterranean is broadly under the jurisdiction of NATO in liaison with Israel. Directed against Syria, it is conducted under the façade of a UN peace-keeping mission pursuant to UN Security Council Resolution 1701. In this context, the war on Lebanon must be viewed as a stage of a the broader US sponsored military road-map.

The naval armada in the Persian Gulf is largely under US command, with the participation of Canada.

The naval buildup is coordinated with the planned air attacks. The planning of the aerial bombings of Iran started in mid-2004, pursuant to the formulation of CONPLAN 8022 in early 2004. In May 2004, National Security Presidential Directive NSPD 35 entitled Nuclear Weapons Deployment Authorization was issued. While its contents remains classified, the presumption is that NSPD 35 pertains to the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons in the Middle East war theater in compliance with CONPLAN 8022.

These war plans must be taken very seriously.

The World is at the crossroads of the most serious crisis in modern history. The US has embarked on a military adventure, "a long war", which threatens the future of humanity.

In the weeks ahead, it is essential that citizens' movements around the world act consistently to confront their respective governments and reverse and dismantle this military agenda.

What is needed is to break the conspiracy of silence, expose the media lies and distortions, confront the criminal nature of the US Administration and of those governments which support it, its war agenda as well as its so-called "Homeland Security agenda" which has already defined the contours of a police State.

GLOBAL ALERT John Moore - Mega-Tsunami from the Canary Islands!

According to John Moore, in a recent interview with Dr. Bill Deagle on the Nutrimedical Report, there is an increased possibility of a super mega-tsunami coming from the Canary Islands in the coming weeks.

El Hierro Volcano: Is one of the smallest of the Canary Islands, the origins of the island date back some 100 million years when the ocean floor shifted with the movement of the Earth's mantle. The crust cracked into a three pointed star releasing flows of magma. After 3 eruptions, the island emerged from the ocean as an imposing volcano more than 2,000 meters high. It has now been over 200 years since the last eruption but El Hierro. Although being the smallest island, it has the largest number of volcanoes with over 500 open sky cones and another 300 covered by the most recent outflows. There has been uncertainty surrounding reports of a historical eruption taking place in 1793.

Meanwhile, scientific research is predicting that an eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano, at La Palma in the Canary Islands would result in a massive mega-tsunami that would reach the East Coast of America.

Geological evidence suggests that during a future eruption, Cumbre Vieja Volcano on the Island of La Palma may experience a catastrophic failure of its west flank, dropping 150 to 500 km3 of rock into the sea. Using a geologically reasonable estimate of landslide motion, we model tsunami waves produced by such a collapse. Waves generated by the run-out of a 500 km3 (150 km3) slide block at 100 m/s could transit the entire Atlantic Basin and arrive on the coasts of the Americas with 10-25 m (3-8 m) height. Lateral collapses of oceanic island volcanoes rank amongst the most spectacular natural events on Earth. Although no such lateral collapse punctuates the historical past, residual debris found on the seafloor evidence their abundance in recent geological time. Moore (1964) first identified the remains of lateral collapses off the flanks of Hawaii. Since then, dozens have been recognized adjacent to island volcanoes in nearly every ocean (Moore et al. 1994; Keating and McGuire, 2000). These observations constrain not only the geography and frequency of lateral collapses, but also their magnitude (up to 5000 km3 of material), extent (to 300 km length) and ferocity (underwater speeds to 140 m/s).
